Family Session at Forest Discovery Centre (Atbara) , Gallop Extension

Throwback to the lovely family session with Yiling and her beautiful family at the lovely Gallop Extension. In case you can't tell, I'm in LOVE with this location! The lush greenery and scenic backdrop provided the perfect setting for creating beautiful memories. We met bright and early for this shoot and gave thanks when the sky decided not to rain down on us.

With a boy and a teenager part of the troop, Yiling was understandably nervous and curious before the shoot so we spent a bit of time going through the possibilities and things to prepare prior to our session. I always encourage clients to ask me questions and let me know their preferences beforehand so I can plan and advise them accordingly. A worried and uncertain mind is a sure-fire way to NOT get good photographs so I always try to allay any uncertainties my client have before the session.

Heirlooms ...

I've always seen my family portrait sessions as a task to create heirlooms that will be handed down for generations - which is why I take such care to engineer authentic photographs that captures who my subjects really are. I also understand how difficult it is for parents (especially mom!) to have beautiful pictures with her family since she is usually too busy taking photographs OF THEM. So I always try to make sure I get different variation of the family members together.

Despite the heat, the family's genuine interactions and joyful moments made the session truly special. Balancing the energy of the younger family member with the more composed demeanor of the teenager allowed me to capture a variety of candid and posed shots that showcased the family's unique bond.
